  • I need to get a new watch, but there are too many choices, I like features, but I would also like a sleek urban style,  I like chronographs, but I would like an alarm.  Does such a watch exist, without costing a fortune?  I will try to find this watch.

  • That storm also knocked out my DSL, its only now coming back on...and its really sketchy and slow.

  • What A Storm

OK, so I'm still soaking wet.  the 70+ mph wind gusts tore off the roofing over the front entry at my house, water just starts pouring in.  The globe on the ceiling is completly full of water and running out.  I run into the basement and turn off the breaker, and we proceed to get buckets to catch the water.  Thankfully the water wasn't running into the living room, it was running right down into the basement where the old wall used to be.

I waited for the rain to slow up a bit and went outside with my trusty flashlight to check out the damage.  The roof above the entry is relatively flat, about 6' x 8'. The roofing was totally peeled back all the way up to and including some of the main roofing. the roofing was shredded, so we couldn't even lay it back down and tack it temporarily.  Oh yes, I failed to mention a cable TV line that runs down the street was literally ripped in two and each side was now down on the power lines.  Aquila is of course going to be working through the night, I heard something like 16,000 customers w/o power in the metro area.

Dad and I went to his new house to check it out and make sure his mulberry tree hadn't fallen down on his new fence...thank goodness no.  His house was fine, a little water got in under the weather stripping on the front door, and in a couple areas in the basement where the outside sheeting wasn't finished yet, but all the house itself was dry.  The wind was blowing so hard that there were pieces of leaves plastered on the wall under the porch overhang.  The porch overhang is almost 8 feet, and the wall on the house was wet all the way up to and including the ceiling on the porch.  There were even leaves that had been jammed between the door and the weatherstripping.

The entry is still leaking but not nearly as much now.  There were several spots on the roof that had shingles ripped off (again, thankfully there was still the old roof underneath so no leaks in the attic, or the main house.  Insurance covers it and will probably be putting another roof on the house in the very near future, so no worries there.  However it is supposed to continue raining all night.

I sure am glad the lawn got finished before this thing hit.

    We needed the rain too.

I just could have done without the gale force winds

    EDIT:

Oh wait I forgot to mention one more thing, while driving from my house to Dad's house there was an entire tree blown over into/across the street. Yes roots and all the wind was strong enough to push the tree right out of the ground. And this was no small tree either it was approximately 18" in diameter waist high. Good thing it didn't fall onto the guys house. He had just finished remodeling.

    Some days you're
    Eeyore

    Today I'm Eeyore

  • I've had this terrible sinking feeling for the past day or two.  Something terrible is going to happen, I know it.  I can feel it.  The sensation is almost overwhelming.  Its like I'm standing in the shadow of a building that is falling, Panic and Terror, it makes me naseous.  Like a premonition, if there can be such a thing.  It is just this incredibly uneasy feeling.

During the quiet times it is the worst, I can block it out when I'm doing other things.

  • so I test drove a tC Wednesday...it was nice, good power(160hp), tight steering, I liked the 2 sunroof thing as well. And how could I forget cup holders. Being without cupholders in the G20 makes me appreciate them more. Inside was as roomy as I expected, but the road seemed far away. The dash is very deep and it made the front window seem really far away. The back seat was about as roomy as any other 2-door coupe I've sat in. 3 people Jon or Blake's size could fit, but you could only get two of someone my size(54in shoulders). The back seats fold down to expand the trunk area, because instead of a regular trunk, the tC has a hatchback. With the seats folded down you could fit a lot in the cargo area. Overall the car was pretty nice....maybe not for me though.
I think this weekend I'm going to test drive the xB. A sister at my hall has one and it is very roomy inside. Being a big person, I need something roomy. And the xB is roomy. Plus it gets 31/34 mpg.

I got my 1GB Creative MuVo TX FM yesterday. I'm glad I got it today. I bought it so I could record the Convention. The TX FM can record directly from FM, so I won't have any of the feedback or reverb problems. Plus its tiny, slightly larger than a Zippo. It runs on a single AAA battery for (allegedly) 15 hours. Creative cites the capacity at 64 hours of recording. Plenty of time, I won't have to offload the program until its over.......or I could take some music with me to listen to during lunch. On second thought, no I better not do that.
